Extend the life of a wooden board with gentle washing, even drying and food-safe oil when needed.
Wash promptly
Use warm water, dish soap and a clean brush or sponge. Do not soak the board, and keep it out of the dishwasher unless the manufacturer specifically says otherwise.
Dry both sides
Wipe the surface and stand the board on its edge with air around both sides. Uneven drying and prolonged moisture can encourage warping or stress glued joints.
Oil when the wood looks dry
Apply a food-safe oil intended for cutting boards, following the product instructions. Ordinary cooking oil can turn rancid and is not a suitable substitute.
