Create a varied tapas board with a clear plan for flavour, quantity and presentation.
Choose a direction
A tapas board feels more coherent when it has a point of view: classic Spanish, Nordic-inspired or vegetable-led. A smaller number of distinct ingredients is more useful than a crowded selection of similar items.
Create contrast
Balance salty, rich foods with acidity, freshness and crunch. Olives, cornichons, fruit, good bread and toasted nuts create contrast between cheese and charcuterie.
Make sharing easy
Pre-slice firm ingredients, give every bowl a spoon and keep napkins and small plates nearby. Serve less per person when the board is an appetiser and more when it is the meal.
This is practical buying guidance, not a claim of hands-on product testing.
