A practical guide to choosing the right cutting board for your kitchen, knives and cleaning routine.
Start with the way you cook
The best cutting board is one that suits your space and habits. Think about counter space, storage, weight and how much maintenance you are comfortable with. A large, stable board is excellent for daily prep; a smaller board is easier to wash and move.
Wood, plastic or bamboo?
Wood has a warm feel and is generally kind to knife edges. Plastic is lightweight and often dishwasher-safe. Bamboo is relatively hard and light. End-grain boards can be durable and knife-friendly, but they are heavier and need regular care.
What to check before buying
Look for a stable base, comfortable edges, useful thickness and clear care instructions. A separate easy-clean board for raw meat can make kitchen hygiene simpler. Price alone does not tell you whether a board fits your needs.
